PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A dead porpoise washed ashore at Ortley Beach in Toms River, New Jersey Tuesday morning.

Sheila Dean, director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, said crews retrieved the porpoise, and a necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

This is the second porpoise to be found dead in New Jersey since January.

Last week, eight dolphins were found along the beach in Sea Isle City. Two of them were discovered dead. The other six had to be euthanized due to a rapid deterioration of health.

Their necropsy results are not in yet.

Thirteen whales and 15 dolphins have been stranded on New Jersey and New York beaches since December.
