The fire broke out around 3 a.m. in one of the units of the Northgate Village Apartments, located off the Burlington Bypass.

Responding police officers saw heavy smoke coming out of a window and tried to enter the apartment, but they were unsuccessful. They had to wait for firefighters to arrive and get the blaze under control.
