PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are searching for the driver who hit a man while he was crossing the street and dragged his body down the road in East Mount Airy late Tuesday night, killing him.
It happened around 11 p.m. on Ogontz Avenue near Cheltenham Avenue, right by the Philadelphia-Montgomery County border.
A 46-year-old man, who works in the neighborhood, was crossing Ogontz Avenue when he was hit by a speeding driver in a silver-colored Ford sedan. Chief Inspector Scott Small said the incident was captured on surveillance cameras.
“You can see the victim’s body being dragged at least 30 or 40 feet in a northbound direction. He was hit with such force he was knocked out of his footwear,” Small said.

A friend of the victim, who witnessed the incident, told police the driver stopped about 100 to 200 feet after the crash.
“The driver got out of the car, looked back at the victim, then got back in the car and left the scene northbound on Ogontz Avenue toward Cheltenham Avenue,” Small said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not initially know the make and model of the driver’s car, but they recovered pieces of the Ford. They said the car may have damage to the front driver’s side.
