PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three teenagers are dead after a crash on Route 55 in Gloucester County Sunday afternoon.

New Jersey State Police say around 4:15 p.m., 19-year-old Brenden Cary of Franklinville was driving northbound on Route 55 in Elk Township when he struck a Honda CRV in the right lane, causing him to lose control. He crossed into the right lane and the right shoulder, where he hit a disabled Dodge and caused it to overturn.

Cary and 19-year-old passenger Dominic Reyes were declared dead on arrival. A 17-year-old boy, who officials did not identify, was also in the car and sustained serious injuries before dying in the hospital later that evening.

Police say 36-year-old Emily Delaney was in the driver's seat of the disabled Dodge, with three children in tow. According to officials, Delaney was seriously hurt, while the three children suffered minor injuries.

In a letter to Delsea Regional School District families, the superintendent identified Cary as an active student and Reyes as a recent graduate.

Counselors will be available at the school.

Route 55 was closed for several hours on Sunday for the investigation.
