WILMINGTON, Del. (KYW Newsradio) — Hundreds of Delaware Technical Community College students will receive training to help identify and prevent child abuse through a grant from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware to the Beau Biden Foundation.

The $25,000 grant will provide specialized training for education, health care and law enforcement students.

“We are now able, because of this grant, to train young people on the precipice of their careers before they step foot in these organizations to know what to look for, to know what to be concerned about the people that are going to be in education or in health care, to know when a child says something to them what they need to do, or when they observe something on a child, what they need to do, and they need to do it without fear, because it's the right thing to do,” said Patricia Dailey Lewis, chief executive officer of the Beau Biden Foundation.

The foundation was established after the death of Attorney General Beau Biden in 2015 to carry on his mission focused on child abuse prevention.

Lewis says the foundation also works with organizations to help them develop policies to prevent child abuse, whether it's a school or sports organization.
