PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Delaware health officials have confirmed a second case of measles, a day after recording its first case in more than a decade.
The Delaware Division of Public Health announced the second case on Tuesday. Both cases were in two unvaccinated men from Kent County.
Health officials are doing extensive contact tracing to find anyone who has been exposed.
This comes amid a nationwide outbreak that includes more than 100 cases in Pennsylvania — most of them in unvaccinated people in Lancaster County.
Measles is highly contagious. Symptoms prior to a rash include a cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. The virus can cause pneumonia, brain inflammation and even death.
The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is 97% effective at preventing measles.
