DELMAR, Del. (KYW Newsradio) — A Delaware police officer has been declared clinically dead, days after he was assaulted and found unconscious while on duty.
Delmar Police say the assault happened as Corporal Keith Heacook was responding to a fight Sunday morning.
Heacook was taken to a trauma center.
Randon Wilkerson, 30, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses later that day. One of those charges is attempted murder.
There was no initial word Wednesday night about updated charges.
Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings said Wilkerson “will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Heacook was part of the Delmar Police Department for 22 years.
Governor John Carney called this “heartbreaking news” in a tweet tonight.
