PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Delaware County woman who admitted to stealing a car with two children inside has been sentenced to a decade in prison.
Federal judge Timothy Savage sentenced 25-year-old Phillis Fugah to 10 years and one day in prison and five years of supervised release for the August 2024 carjacking along West Chester Pike.
Authorities said Fugah, along with suspect Ian Dean, walked up to a car with a father and two young children inside, and a struggle for the vehicle ensued.
Dean ran from the scene, investigators said, and Fugah jumped in the car. Then, they said, Fugah shot at the father, missing him by inches.
A 2-month-old baby was inside the car. The other child, a 5-year-old, was able to escape. Fugah took off in the car, only to drop it blocks away near State Road.
The baby was safe.
Fugah was later arrested and pleaded guilty to carjacking and weapons offenses. Dean was never arrested.
