PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police have identified two suspects wanted in connection with a carjacking in Upper Darby Thursday afternoon.
Police say just after 3 p.m. a father was waiting with his two kids in their white Honda Pilot while his wife shopped at a corner store on West Chester Pike between Merion Terrace and New Street. They say that’s when the suspects, identified as 23-year-old Phillis Fugah, of Upper Darby, and 21-year-old Ian Dean, of Philadelphia, walked up to the car and a struggle began.
According to surveillance video obtained by our newsgathering partners at NBC10, Dean ran away from the scene as Fugah carjacked the family.
A 5-year-old was able to get out, but a 2-month-old remained inside as Fugah drove off.
As Fugah drove away, police say a shot was fired at a crowded SEPTA bus. No one inside was hurt.
Police say Fugah left the car at State Road and West Chester Pike, possibly realizing the 2-month-old was inside. The baby was found and brought to safety.
Fugah has an active arrest warrant for criminal attempt murder, robbery, and related offenses. Dean has an active arrest warrant for robbery and related offenses.
Police urge anyone with information on this incident to call 911.
Editor’s update, Sept. 1, 2025:
In July 2025, Fugah pleaded guilty in federal court to carjacking and a weapons offense and will be sentenced in November to at least a decade in prison, but could spend the rest of her life behind bars. Dean still remains a fugitive.
