PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A DoorDash delivery driver was shot and killed in Southwest Philadelphia Tuesday night. Police are searching for three men who got away.

Police were called to South Ithan Street, near Hoffman Avenue, in Kingsessing around 9:30 p.m. They found a 42-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the back of the head, down on the ground right next to his car, which was still running. Police believe he was targeted.

“The spent shell casings, which appeared to be rifle rounds, were just a few inches from where the victim’s body was lying. Also, just a few inches away was the DoorDash delivery bag,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Investigators also checked the address that the delivery was made for, and the residents said they never placed an order. The victim died at the hospital.

Police said three masked men ran from the scene.

Police found a few cellphones that were left behind at the scene. About a half a block to a block away, a bag with food in it was also found, but it was not immediately clear if it was also part of the DoorDash delivery.

There are a number of surveillance cameras in the neighborhood, so police are working to obtain footage as they try to identify and find the people involved.

Just last month in Northeast Philadelphia, a pizza delivery driver was targeted, shot and killed. Police are not saying Tuesday’s shooting was connected, but Small acknowledged the risk that drivers take just by doing their jobs.

“We responded to shootings and also homicides and robberies of these delivery drivers. So of course, it’s always very dangerous making a delivery in a neighborhood where you’re not very familiar with the surroundings,” Small said.
