PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — With just a few more days until Election Day, the candidates and their supporters are making last-minute stops throughout the Philadelphia region. Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, is in Philadelphia on her behalf for a church rally.

“He is the second gentleman of the United States of America, soon to be the first gentleman of the United States of America,” said Pennsylvania state Sen. Vincent Hughes. “He is Doug Emhoff. We like to call him Doug.”

Hughes introduced Emhoff on Sunday morning at Sharon Baptist Church in Philadelphia’s Wynnefield Heights neighborhood.

After the Sunday service, Emhoff told the congregation a story about getting the call informing him that his wife would run for president instead of Joe Biden.

“She knew she had to become the best version of an already incredible woman, and that’s what she’s been for the last 15 weeks,” he said.

Emhoff spoke about the importance of the church in Kamala’s life.

“Church is the place that really made her who she is. She sang in the children’s choir and she learned about a loving God. That church in Oakland, California, instilled in Kamala her strong and deep personal faith.”

Emhoff encouraged congregants to turn out to vote on Nov. 5 and to have a plan when they hit the polls.
