PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating a drive-by shooting at a Kensington mini-mart that left three people hurt early Tuesday morning.
It was around 2 a.m. when police said a gold-colored sedan with tinted windows pulled up on Kensington Avenue near A Street.
“It appears that someone in the back seat on the driver’s side fires multiple shots from the rear window,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
At least five shots were fired at the store.
Small said a 35-year-old employee, who was in front talking to customers, was hit in the leg a few times. A 25-year-old man, who was inside the store, was also hit in the leg and hand.
“He was in the takeout area playing one of the gambling machines when two bullets went through the metal grate,” Small said.
The third victim was a 49-year-old man who police said was homeless and sleeping outside. A stray bullet hit him in the foot.
All three victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.
Police said the shooting was captured on a private security camera. They are investigating the incident and, at this point, it is not clear to them what the motive and who the intended target was.
According to the Philadelphia Controller’s Office, there have been more than 1,000 non-fatal shooting victims in the city so far this year.
