PERKASIE BOROUGH (KYW Newsradio) — A driver says he struck a small bear in Bucks County on Wednesday morning, during one of the multiple bear sightings in the area.

The driver reported hitting the bear on Ridge Road. Police said the driver told them the bear walked off after the collision, and may be injured.

Perkasie Police say the calls of bear sightings started coming in Tuesday night. The first call mentioned two bears which were spotted.

Police say that most of the sightings were for one bear, near Guth Elementary School off of North 7th Street.

"My daughter was playing out, and there were people that were actually (shooting video of) the cub down by the Guth area," said Sherry Kayser, who lives in the neighborhood and said word about the sightings traveled fast.

"Not really crazy about having the kids run around wth a bear around, so we're just being a little cautious but not overly concerned."

She says moms have been texting each other to watch their children and keep small animals inside.

"We're not used to having a bear around, but they built huge storage buildings on Ridge Road. I think that's pushed a lot of the wildlife down into town and could be one of the reasons we're seeing more wildlife around."

The Pennsylvania Game Commission gave police tips to share with the public, particularly that if you ever come across a bear, don't approach or feed it, and don't do anything that might bother the bear.
