PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The former principal of a Philadelphia elementary school will have to pay back nearly $32,000 in missing student funds.
A report by the Philadelphia School District’s inspector general says the principal failed to deposit nearly $32,000 from book fairs and graduation fees during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years and is personally liable for the money.
The report does not name the principal or the school, but the Philadelphia Inquirer identified the principal as Yvette Jackson, who retired from Pollock Elementary School in 2025.
The report does not accuse the former principal of stealing the money; rather, it says she is liable for the losses resulting from the failure to exercise proper oversight and accounting of the money.
The inspector general recommended that the missing money be withheld from the former principal’s termination pay for unused time off and sick leave.
The district did not comment, but in the report, it said the former principal “acknowledged receipt of the memo and did not object to the proposed withholding.”
