
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A driver is dead after his car struck a SEPTA bus in the early Saturday morning hours in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.
Police say it happened just after 1 a.m. at the intersection Frankford and Allegheny avenues. A SEPTA bus with two passengers aboard was headed northbound on Frankford Avenue when a silver 2005 Mini Cooper, speeding eastbound on Allegheny Avenue, ran a red light and hit the bus.
The 23-year-old Mini Cooper driver was pronounced dead on the scene minutes later. Police told our partners at NBC10 that he was fleeing from a traffic stop. The nature of the stop is not yet known.
The 56-year-old SEPTA driver and passengers, a 21-year-old woman and 24-year-old man, didn't report any injuries, according to police.
The Crash Investigation Division is investigating the accident.
