NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Norristown’s water utility company has asked residents to reduce their water usage, due to drier than normal conditions.

In an email to customers, Pennsylvania American Water issued a voluntary conservation notice, effective immediately. Residents have been asked to limit non-essential water use until weather conditions improve.

The company also issued a schedule for any outdoor watering in Norristown. All residents with an even-numbered street address are asked to water on even-numbered dates, while odd-numbered addresses are restricted to odd-numbered dates.

The notice comes as the Philadelphia region grapples with a record-breaking drought, having gone without a measurable rainfall since the end of September. The dry spell is the area's longest since 1874.

Pennsylvania American Water says it will notify customers when the notice is lifted.
