PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Electronic nicotine products have been rapidly growing in popularity among young adults. The use of e-cigarettes has risen from 5% in 2014 to 14% in 2022.

This is a public health problem. Different states are approaching it with educational programs and bans on flavored electronic products, which are marketed to young adults.

A new study looked at results from the behavioral risk factor system, which has data on 250,000 people between the ages of 18 and 29. States that banned e-cigarette products saw an increase in cigarette smoking.

It appears one form of tobacco is replacing another, and little progress is being made.
