How diehard Eagles fans have stayed with the Birds through thick and thin, through over 50 years of season tickets

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Having any kind of possession for at least a half century is typically pretty impressive. For Elizabeth and Rod Lukens, that would be Eagles tickets. The Lukens are entering their 53rd season as season ticket holders.

“Well, it’s a way of life,” Elizabeth says. “We interrupt this family for football season. Everything revolves around football.”

Elizabeth and Rod, both in their 70’s, have been Eagles fans since the beginning. Elizabeth said since birth. Rod remembers going to Franklin Field as a kid. He also remembers listening to the 1960 NFL Championship between the Eagles and Packers at a local grocery store. And their love story started watching an Eagles game in the late 60’s. How appropriate.

The Lukens first got tickets in the legendary 700 Level at Veterans Stadium in 1973. They eventually moved to the 600 Level and today have four seats in the upper deck at the Linc.

They are incredibly superstitious, especially with their pregame routine. They follow the Eagles religiously throughout the week. And they have no intention whatsoever of giving up their seats.

Take a listen to this week’s KYW Newsradio Philadelphia Sports Fan of the Week to learn more about the Lukens and the legacy of Eagles fandom they’ve created.
