PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If you walk into Creators Barber Studios in Marlton, you might find yourself doing a double take at some of their clients.
The barbershop is no stranger to Eagles players like cornerback Darius Slay, who discovered their shop through a social media post nearly two years ago.
“I was posting my haircuts and I guess he lived around the area and he made a post saying how he needed a barber, that he just moved here,” said shop owner Nick Vendetti, who then sent Slay a direct message about his shop.
“So I just shot him a DM and was like, 'Yo I have a shop in Marlton just come through whenever you want,' and he answered right away and was like, 'Oh, that's cool, I'm around the corner. Can I come by now?' and I was like uhhh so I just cut him on my break.”
After his haircut, Slay posted about it on social media, which then grabbed the attention of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Hurts stopped by the shop later that day for a haircut and let Vendetti shave a design on his head.
Vendetti was grateful for the quick traction Slay’s post gained.
"So just by reposting me - this is when Jalen first got drafted here - and he went in my DMs right away and was like 'Yo, I saw you got up with Slay, I'll try to get a cut too' and that was crazy because I cut both of them the same day," Vendetti said.
Hurts now gets his hair cut there almost every week, sometimes even before games.
“We were doing something like every Sunday right before a game – before he went in to get ready he would come in and get a cut,” Vendetti said.
Vendetti added that visits from both Hurts and Slay, who he now calls friends, have helped attract even more customers to the shop.
