MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Another escapee is on the loose, this time in South Jersey.

Edward Berbon, 54, has been serving time since 2005 for attempted murder. He has been living in a halfway house in Camden County and working in Mount Laurel since March as part of the state’s Residential Community Release Program.

Mount Laurel police announced his escape on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Police say he did not return to the halfway house on Saturday, Sept. 23.

According to the New Jersey Department of Corrections, Berbon was supposed to report for a community program after his shift at a retail job Saturday night, but he never showed up.

Berbon was scheduled to be released in February 2024.

Police say Berbon does not pose a threat to the public. It is unknown if he is still in the Mount Laurel area.

It’s not clear if there have been any sightings of Berbon since Saturday.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the New Jersey Department of Corrections Fugitive Unit at 1-800-523-3829.
