President-elect Donald Trump didn’t only succeed in winning Pennsylvania for himself on election night, his popularity boosted the commonwealth’s down-ballot Republican candidates as well —  from the U.S. Senate to state House races. It was only two years ago, however, that Pennsylvania voters overwhelmingly threw their support behind Democrats in high-profile state-wide contests. What prompted the change of heart? KYW Newsradio Suburban Bureau Chief Jim Melwert puts this week’s outcomes into context.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ defeat in the presidential election means one thing is certain: the Democratic field for 2028 will likely be wide open. Does that mean Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro could make a run at the White House? Despite the rise of the Montgomery County native’s star on the national political scene, KYW Newsradio Suburban Bureau Chief Jim Melwert says Shapiro should expect to face several hurdles.
