PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Outside one of the Macy’s store entrances in Center City is a message written in chalk that reads, “R.I.P. Eric. We All Love You.”
Eric Harrison, 27, was fatally stabbed by Tyrone Tunnell, 30, while working inside the store Monday morning.
Police say Tunnell was kicked out of Macy’s for trying to steal a couple of knit hats. He came back minutes later and stabbed Harrison and another security guard, age 23, who is in critical but stable condition.
Harrison’s mother, Dawn Harrison-Fobbs, spoke with our partners at NBC10 about the devastating loss.
“Now I’m robbed of grandchildren, seeing my son walk down the aisle,” she said. “Just, all the memories I will never get from my 27-year-old son — it’s all gone.”
She said her son had two full-time jobs, “and this is how he was taken out.”
“This is not what life was supposed to look like. That’s truly all I have to say. He was my best friend and now he’s gone.”
She says she hopes justice will be served and that Tunnell is punished.
“I want him to be prosecuted. I want him to pay for my child’s life and that’s all I can ask for.”
The Macy’s will reopen Wednesday with increased security.
