PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Eric Lewis, the man charged with shooting two Philadelphia police officers earlier this month, killing officer Shane Seiber, appeared in federal court Thursday afternoon for his formal arraignment.
Dressed in a bright orange jumpsuit, and shackled hands and feet, Lewis hobbled into the courtroom and sat in front of police top brass, U.S. Attorney Dave Metcalf, and the widow of Sgt. Seiber.
Seiber was shot and killed on Oct. 10 while responding to a call along 52nd Street near Race Street in West Philadelphia. His partner, Hector Rodriguez, was also shot a dozen times in the incident, but was recently released from the hospital.
Lewis was initially charged with murder by the District Attorney’s Office, but the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has also announced a gun and robbery indictment.
Lewis has pleaded not guilty to all the charges he faces.
He will remain behind bars in the city’s custody as both cases move forward.
