PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Nine people are dead, including two children, after a mass shooting at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania, Friday night.
It happened in a home on Perry Street around 5 p.m. According to our newsgathering partners at NBC10, witnesses reported seeing a gunman firing shots outside the house before entering the residence.
Authorities said two women were found shot to death on the street outside the home. Erie Police and SWAT teams got in a standoff outside the home; more gunshots were heard from inside.
When police entered the home, they found seven bodies, including the suspected gunman’s. Police believe he killed himself.
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said he hasn't seen anything like this in his 28-year career.
“This is one of the most difficult and heartbreaking scenes our officers and investigators have ever encountered. The loss of life is devastating and the circumstances we are working through are deeply disturbing.”
What led to the shooting is not yet known. An investigation is underway.
