Expert talks worry about potential danger of Trump's last days in office

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — After last week's chaos at the Capital, some are wondering how bad things could potentially get during the limited time President Donald Trump has left in his term.

Less than two weeks might not seem like a long time, but Drexel University political science professor Bill Rosenberg says it's enough time to create more turmoil.

"It's pretty hard to imagine how bad they could get but just to give you an example, President Trump still controls the nuclear codes.  He could decide to go to war against a country."

This is among the concerns of those lawmakers who want Trump to resign, now.

"If you and your listeners have been paying attention, Donald Trump was escalating the conflict with Iran recently and in a quiet way the defense department moved military equipment and aircraft carrier and other things away from the region to send Iran a message that we don't want to have a battle with you right now," said Rosenberg.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has already taken action to minimize any potential danger. On Friday, she told House Democrats that she had spoke with the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff about creating safeguards against the president using the nuclear codes to initiate a strike.

"The situation of this unhinged president could not be more dangerous and we must do everything that we can to protect the American people from his unbalanced assault on our country and our democracy," said Pelosi.
