PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Some of the big events in the city this week are being cut short because of the extreme heat.

The route for Friday's Salute to Independence Parade was shortened.

Instead of a two-and-a-half-mile route, it'll be just one mile from Independence Hall to City Hall.

Parade producer Todd Marcocci told NBC10 everyone seemed happy about the decision.

"That's the thing about the parade business. Mother Nature rules everything. So, once I sent the email out to all of the participants last night, they were elated," he said.

And the FIFA Fan Fest at Lemon Hill adjusted its hours.

It'll open four hours late today, Thursday and Friday. Today, it'll be open 4 to midnight. On Thursday, 6 pm-10 pm and Friday, 5 p.m.- 9 p.m.
