Philly School District reminds families to check the tech before semester starts

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — In three weeks, Philadelphia students will be back to in-person school. Superintendent Dr. William Hite is advising students and parents to fire up those laptop computers that the school district distributed last year, to make sure they still work.

"Students should begin checking the district-issued Chromebooks now to make sure the devices are operating properly, as they will need to bring them to school on the first day, which is Aug. 31," Hite said Thursday at a news conference at district headquarters.

Hite reminded reporters of the long lines of parents waiting to get their laptops repaired in 2020.

"Many of you covered all of the long lines last year with people waiting to get their technology repaired.  In order to prevent that, we want to remind individuals to start checking the technology now."

The district has established three tech support sites at the Fitzpatrick Annex, at Martin Luther King High, and at South Philadelphia High School.  https://www.philasd.org/coronavirus/chromebooks/
