PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Officials in New Jersey say more kids than usual are acting out and exhibiting symptoms of stress and anxiety, likely attributable to returning to school.
Those officials want to remind family members that help is just a phone call away.
A year away from school certainly had an impact on students, not only on their academic performance but also on their personality.
Department of Children and Families Commissioner Christine Norbut Beyer said many students' morning routine is turning into a daily fight at homes all over the state with kids refusing to get ready, refusing to listen, leaving parents feeling helpless.
"Some of the signs of more serious behavioral health challenges may include prolonged or recurring opposition and aggression, property damage and disrespect, feelings of anxiety or depression, a pattern or prolonged lying or fighting, stealing or substance use," said Norbut Beyer.
She wants everyone to know it's ok to not be ok.
