PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Kada Scott’s family participated in a balloon release outside the Art Museum steps Sunday morning to honor the 23-year-old’s life.
Her father, Kevin Scott, said the family wants closure.
"Definitely justice for Kada with the case. That's the end goal," he said. "We need justice."
Kada went missing on Oct. 4th. Police found her two weeks later, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Keon King, 21, is now facing murder and kidnapping charges. Authorities are also still looking for a second person, they said helped him move her body.
The balloon release was part of a larger demonstration of solidarity with victims of domestic violence.
Scott said dealing with this tragedy has taught him the importance of speaking out against domestic violence.
“I'll be honest, I was a little bit ignorant to it. I just didn't know all the particulars, but with your kid being involved directly in it, it definitely opens your eyes,” he said.
“It's a crime," said Nicole Figueroa, founder of Survivor Warrior, an organization dedicated to supporting victims.
"It is not a secret to be kept. We do not protect the abusers. We do not feel ashamed. We do not feel judgment. We are here to help each other. We are here to heal each other."
