Man killed, woman injured in Kensington row home fire
Philadelphia Fire Department

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was killed and a woman injured in a fire that ripped through a row home in Kensington Monday morning.

Philadelphia fire crews responded to the scene around 6:40 a.m. Officials said the fire broke out on the first floor of a home in the middle of the block of Schiller Street, near Harrowgate Park.

Firefighters were able to rescue a woman who had climbed to the roof of the home's porch, but a man was found dead on the second floor.

Assistant Fire Chief Charles Walker told our newsgathering partners at NBC10, "crews made an aggressive interior attack once making entry to conduct a search and upon completing their search, they did find an elderly male victim on the first floor of the property."

The woman was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The fire was extinguished by 6:56 a.m. Officials are still investigating the blaze and the man's death. Walker says upon an initial search, they found no signs of smoke alarms in the residence.

This fire comes three days after a fire ripped through another home in Kensington on Friday, killing a mother and her child.

Walker said those who need a smoke alarm installation can call 311. And be sure to check in with your neighbor to make sure they have alarms that work.
