PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A father and son are recovering after they were caught in a crossfire in Northeast Philadelphia Sunday night.

Around 6:30 p.m., investigators said the 40-year-old man and 14-year-old boy were outside talking with friends on Vista Street, near Torresdale Avenue, in the city’s Holmesburg section, when two different groups got into a confrontation nearby.

Members of both groups pulled out weapons and started firing at each other, and police said stray bullets hit the father and son.

“At this time, it does not appear that anyone among those two groups was struck,” said Inspector D.F. Pace. “Only the two individuals that were completely unrelated to this incident suffered gunshot wounds.”

Both the father and son were shot in the stomach. The father was also shot in the arm. They were taken to nearby hospitals, where they are listed in stable condition.

Authorities said those responsible for the shooting were apprehended Sunday night. None of them was hurt.

Police do not have a motive yet for why the groups got into the altercation.
