PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The FBI is asking for the public’s help in recovering Revolutionary War-era guns that were stolen decades ago from Valley Forge National Park.
They say several firearms were taken in a string of thefts during the 1960s and 1970s but some were recently returned to the Museum of American Revolution in Old City.
Authorities say the ongoing federal investigation began in 2009.
Since then, three men — Michael Corbett, Scott Corbett, and Thomas Gavin — have admitted to taking some of the firearms from the park and Valley Forge Historical Society.
They say Gavin was “a significant museum thief” who also stole relics from the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Academy of Natural Sciences.
All three men were charged.
