PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Looking to get a fresh start to 2025?

Why not check out First Day Hikes? It’s an opportunity to get a free, guided hike at state parks across the country, including Pennsylvania, on New Year’s Day.

Washington Crossing Historic Park in Buck County is one of the participating locations. There, you can go on an hour-long hike led by Matt Truesdale, an environmental education specialist for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of State Parks.

“I’m partnering with the Delaware Canal State Park, so myself and an educator from the Delaware Canal will be here to guide park visitors through the 2 miles of both Washington Crossing Park as well as the Delaware Canal,” he said.

“So it’s very interesting at this park here because you can walk to a second state park and not a lot of people can say that, it’s not very often you can walk to a whole other state park.”

Truesdale will also lead weekly Wednesday Evening Heathy Hikes in Washington Crossing Historic Park during January.

Most First Day Hikes require registration, so be sure to check with the individual park before heading out. For more participating parks, click here.
