PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This weekend on Flashpoint, host Cherri Gregg asks the burning questions about transracial adoption.

In recent days, the issue took center stage when U.S. Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett was announced. She and her husband have seven children; two are adopted from Haiti. The realization led to a discussion on social media.

Dr. Ibrim X. Kendi, author of "How to Be an Anti-Racist," tweeted, "White colonizers adopted Black children." It sparked debate between pro-life adoptive parents and many who believe that white parents are unable to provide proper cultural upbringing to children of color.

Dr. Joseph Crumbley, a therapist and expert on transracial adoption and kinship care joins Stefani Moon, former Open Arms Adoption Program manager and adoptive mother of Black children, and Julie and Nate Overly, new transracial adoptive parents.

The newsmaker of the week is Dan Pearson, who recently wrote the Philadelphia Inquirer op-ed, "As a Black son adopted by white parents, I relate to Amy Coney Barrett’s mixed family." Pearson's adoptive parents were part of the pro-life movement and adopted him and his brother. Pearson, who is biracial, says he felt the need to speak out against naysayers.

Finally, the Patriot Home Care Changemaker of the week is the Abington-Ambler Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. The group is bringing scores of fraternity brothers from New Jersey, Maryland and beyond to help with a weeks-long voter registration effort.

The campaign began in Montgomery County on October 3. The effort will expand to Chester County on October 17.
