PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The vast majority of hospitals and hospital systems in the United States work on very little margins — the difference between profit and loss can be razor thin.
As a result, many are forced to flex staff up and down. In addition, physicians who are employed by large organizations are being asked to see more patients in a limited time or make up for reduced staffing.
How does that impact you? A new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that the greatest impact of staff reductions and flexing was on one key aspect: preventive care.
As a result of reduced staff, caregivers focused on pressing issues and demanded rapid attention, but anticipatory care suffered.
