PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man barricaded himself in a Northeast Philadelphia home with children inside for several hours.
It started around 3 a.m. on Friday. Philadelphia police received a call about a man with a gun, and they eventually declared a barricade.
They closed off two and a half blocks of Shelmire Avenue in Mayfair, between Frankford Avenue and Walker Street, for more than three hours.
During the standoff, three children were rescued from the house.
Eventually, a man emerged from a house on the street with a baby in his arms and surrendered to SWAT officers.
“It was crazy to see all this commotion going on, and I just hope the neighborhood gets a little better,” said Waldemar Delgado, who lives up the street.
Police have not said what led to the barricade, or whether any charges will be filed against the detained man.
