Mount Laurel, NJ (KYW Newsradio) — More charges have been filed against a former Mount Laurel police officer.
Ayron Taylor, 22, of Delran, was accused of hacking into social media accounts and posting nude photos of the victims. He has since resigned from his position at the police department, where he was employed for about one year.
Taylor was initially charged in October with hacking into the social media accounts of a woman from Evesham and posting a nude photo of her to her Snapchat and Facebook accounts.
Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia Bradshaw says there were many more victims.
Taylor was accused of doing this to at least 18 other women. Investigators say he used a personal electronic device while on duty in a patrol car to do some of the hacking.
He is facing 83 additional charges for cyber-related crimes, including possession and distribution of child porn because some of the photos were taken before the victims were of legal age, according to investigators.
Authorities say all of the victims have a Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) email address and that Taylor is accused of hacking into nearly 3,000 Rowan email accounts.
Michael A. Cioce, RCBC's president, said in a statement that this is a "repugnant cyber intrusion of privacy against the college and, especially, many of our students.”
“Rowan College at Burlington County immediately strengthened network security upon the first report of the incident. Although there was no systemic failure of the college’s technology infrastructure, there is always opportunity for stronger security measures. The college’s Office of Student Support can provide assistance to victims who are impacted.”
Investigators say there may be more victims and if anyone with an RCBC email address believes their photos were stolen or accessed without authorization, they should contact investigators at bcpohtc@co.burlington.nj.us.
