BUCKS COUNTY, PA (KYW Newsradio) — A 41-year-old Levittown man has been charged with sexual abuse of four children in the early 2000s when he was an employee of an after-school program.

The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office says the boys, all between ages 7 and 13 at the time, met Gerald Spoto of Disk Lane through the Kids Club at Hoover Elementary School in the Neshaminy School District.

According to the criminal complaint, the assaults happened between 2000 and 2004 at Spoto’s home, which was in Langhorne at the time.

The charges were filed against Spoto after detectives reopened the case last week, revisiting two inactive reports filed in 2013 and 2017.

The DA’s office says the reports were from different accusers, but both claimed they were sexually assaulted by Spoto between 2000 and 2004 at his home.

One victim reported about 50 illicit encounters with Spoto when they were between nine and 11 years old. Another victim said he was assaulted by Spoto 100 times when he was between 10 and 12 years old.

Spoto was charged with indecent assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors, aggravated indecent assault, and indecent assault.

Neshaminy School District says Kids Club is a separate organization and employs its own staff, but district officials are cooperating with the investigation.

Spoto was arraigned Tuesday and was taken to Bucks County Correctional Facility under $1 million bail. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 3, 2024.

The DA’s office says anyone with additional information about Spoto should contact the Middletown Township Police Department at 215-750-3872.
