PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has checked himself into a hospital after announcing Saturday he tested positive for COVID-19.
Christie tweeted early Saturday evening, "In consultation with my doctors, I checked myself into Morristown Medical Center this afternoon. While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure."
The former governor had announced on Twitter earlier in the day that he tested positive for coronavirus, after having spent time with President Donald Trump in preparation for Tuesday night's presidential debate.
Following the president's COVID-19 diagnosis, Christie told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Friday that masks were not used during the debate prep session.
"No one was wearing masks in the room during that time when we were prepping the president," said Christie. "The group was about five or six people in total," and also included Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani.
Christie's announcement came as Trump's medical team delivered an update on his condition, following his own COVID-19 diagnosis. The president's doctors said they were "extremely happy" with his progress, and that his mild symptoms, including cough, nasal congestion, and fatigue, were "resolving" and "improving."
However, a source familiar with Trump's health subsequently told reporters, “The president’s vitals over the last 24 hours were very concerning and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care. We’re still not on a clear path to a full recovery.”
