NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly decapitating a seagull in North Wildwood.

Police say they responded to a report of animal cruelty near Morey’s Pier on July 6.

They arrested 29-year-old Franklin Ziegler of Cape May for disorderly conduct with police and resisting arrest during another investigation unrelated to the dead bird.

North Wildwood police say Ziegler was “irate and uncooperative" during the investigation. After seeing photos and speaking with witnesses at the scene, Ziegler was charged with killing the seagull.

He was released on bail pending a court hearing.
