PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia's Commerce Department is hosting a free monthly event series aimed at helping businesses in the city grow. The April edition of “Coffee and Commerce” will focus on safety and crime prevention, and all Philadelphia business owners are invited to attend.
This month's event is titled “Safety Essentials and Crime Prevention for Businesses in Philadelphia”. A panel of safety and crime prevention experts will be featured, including representatives from the Philadelphia Police Department, SEPTA Transit Police, and the Office of Public Safety.
The Commerce Department's Michelle Price, Senior Director for the Mayor's Business Action Team, said the event is meant to empower local business owners.
"We want to make sure that they leave not only informed, but also having phone numbers and contact informed, so that they are not alone. We don't want our businesses to ever feel that they are alone, we are here, and we are assisting them as fast as possible," she said.
Effective security strategies and practical crime prevention measures will also be discussed.
"And our panelist will share valuable insights on how businesses can protect themselves, provide critical tips for responding to incidents like a burglary or theft, and offer public safety resources, including trauma-informed care."
The event will take place on Thursday, April 24th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Sheet Metal Workers Local 19 building along Columbus Boulevard near Washington Avenue. Free parking is available.
