Teen girl, 2 women in critical condition after 4 shot in Germantown

Police say two young men shot at each other and hit four unintended targets

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police say that a 16-year-old girl and two women are in critical condition, among four people shot Thursday afternoon in Northwest Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood.

Police are looking for two suspects who, investigators say, were shooting at each other and unintentionally shot the victims.

The quadruple shooting happened just before 4:30 p.m. near the corner of West Chelten Avenue and Greene Street.

According to initial information from the scene, two young men, 15 and 20, got into an altercation outside a Rite-Aid on Chelten Avenue. They started firing at each other, but shot four others. It was initially unclear how many shots were fired.

The teen girl was shot twice, once in the chest and once in the arm, a 65-year-old woman was shot in the chest, and the 22-year-old woman was shot in the rear end according to police.

According to authorities, a man was shot in the hand during the incident. He was listed in stable condition.

"Warm day today, people out here. Young men firing guns when they should be solving their disputes in other ways. Instead of out here shooting at each other, they should be working on correcting their behaviors and doing the right thing," said Philadelphia Police Capt. John Walker.

"You got four innocent people who were just out here, shopping, enjoying the day. And now, sitting in the hospital."

Police are relying on the community in the search for the two suspects. They are gathering video evidence and say that if you have any information about who the suspects might be, give them a call.
