PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Delaware County man is accused of sexually abusing a student while working at Philadelphia’s Girard College as a teacher and serving as a Boy Scout troop leader.

Upland Borough police said they were tipped off by the alleged victim’s foster mother in late January, who reported that the child said 68-year-old Keith Steininger had assaulted him for years.

The alleged abuse occurred between 2018 and 2020, when the victim was between 11 and 13 years old. The abuse only stopped after the boy left the boarding school.

The Delaware County District Attorney’s Office said on April 11, during a phone call between Steininger and the victim, Steininger admitted to having sexual contact with the boy.

Steininger worked at the boarding school for 41 years before retiring in 2022. Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said that given his long tenure, it’s “very likely” additional victims will come forward.

Steininger is charged with unlawful sexual contact.

Girard College is a five-day boarding school in Fairmount for first- through 12th-graders who come from single-parent or guardian households.
