PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The bus terminal at 10th and Filbert streets that services Greyhound, Peter Pan Bus Lines and FlixBus is closing its doors and rerouting its pick-up and drop-off stop to a one-block stretch of Market Street.
The old Greyhound terminal is on the site of the proposed 76ers arena neighboring Chinatown. The new location is on the 600 block of Market Street, near Independence Mall.
There’s already a Megabus stop at that intersection, as well as a stop for Philly’s PHLASH downtown loop, a seasonal route that takes riders from Penn’s Landing to the Art Museum area to Fairmount Park attractions.
Greyhound did not give a reason for the relocation but said in a statement:
“Greyhound has been proud to serve Philadelphia and the surrounding areas for decades, and that commitment will continue. This new location, right in the middle of downtown Philly, will enable passengers to purchase tickets and board buses in a seamless fashion. The peak travel season is upon us, and our new Market St. location will allow passengers to easily travel throughout the Northeast and beyond.”

The new site to buy tickets in person resembles a small storefront and is located on the south side of Market between Sixth and Seventh streets. There’s limited capacity for customers inside, and it appears to lack space for peak bus traffic outside.
There is also a lack of seating and shelter for people to stand under, and no sign of bathrooms.
The only place for the buses to park is in SEPTA bus lanes along the street. Some taxi drivers say the new operation is going to be inconvenient and hurt their business.

There’s no word if service will be affected by the relocation. A regional Greyhound representative was not made immediately available to KYW Newsradio.
