PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Gunshots rang out in West Philadelphia Friday night, just after a high school football game ended.
Police said it happened just after 9 p.m. at the intersection of 49th and Spruce streets, while fans and spectators were exiting the field nearby.
Officials found five shell casings from a semi-automatic gun at the scene, but no one was believed to have been shot.
"It's unclear at whom, or if there was even a target," said Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace.
"As we inspected the crime scene, we could find no cars that were struck, or any strike marks on any walls, which suggests it's very possible that the bullets may have just simply been fired indiscriminately. We just don't know at this point."
Pace said officers and security were on scene already for the football game. He added, though, it's concerning that someone was firing a gun that close to a large crowd of people.
