PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Ta’Rea Campbell has gone from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts to the Broadway stage, and now, she’s back in town playing Angelica Schuyler in the touring cast of “Hamilton.”

It’s always a proud moment to see a Philadelphia native up on the Academy of Music stage. Campbell is thrilled to be back, too, though her show schedule doesn’t allow her much time to see family and friends.
“People have been able to come to the show, but I’m not hanging out,” she said. “I have a routine that I do to make sure that I am prepared for the show, and it doesn’t include brunch, sadly.”
She did make time to take her castmates to Paganos, her favorite cheesesteak place, and bring them back to her mom’s house in West Oak Lane.
“We all ate [the cheesesteaks] at my dining room table. And then my mom, because she’s my mom, made everybody individualized cakes,” she gushed.
While the schedule of touring life can be tough, Campbell said it’s an equal performance to Broadway, just in a different place.

“I just don’t like when people say, ‘Oh, do you wish you were in the Broadway company?’
“When I speak to young actors, I always say Broadway is just a street. The work that you do is the work that you do.”
Campbell talks more about life on tour, how the pandemic left her stuck in Toronto, and how she brings her own experiences to the iconic role on the latest episode of the KYW Newsradio original podcast KYW In Depth.
