Harvie to represent Bucks County in Congress after unseating incumbent Fitzpatrick

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Democrat Bob Harvie has unseated incumbent Republican Brian Fitzpatrick in the Bucks County congressional race. His campaign declared victory before official results came down from the Associated Press. The race was called around 12:30 a.m.

The former social studies teacher called the moment “historic" and thanked the decades of candidates who he said "chipped away at the status quo."

Democrats have tried for years to defeat Fitzpatrick and were unsuccessful until now.

Earlier this year, Harvie pointed to his deep roots in the 1st Congressional District as to why he could be different from previous Democrats who ran against Fitzpatrick.

“I’m not somebody who needs to be reintroduced or introduced to people of this district. And that’s very, very different than any race he’s ever run before,” he said.

Gov. Josh Shapiro endorsed Harvie in May, saying he will advance an agenda "that helps Pennsylvania and stands up against the chaos, cruelty, and corruption of Donald Trump."

Harvie became Bucks County commissioner in 2019. He grew up in Bucks County and graduated from Bristol High School and George Washington University.
