PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating two separate hit-and-runs — one of them fatal — in Philadelphia over the weekend.
Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, investigators said a man was fatally struck in South Philadelphia. It happened at 26th Street and Penrose Avenue, near the bottom of the Platt Bridge.
Police are looking for the driver of a black tow truck who fled the scene.
Inspector D.F. Pace said the truck dragged the victim about 40 yards.
“It looks like the truck … skipped the curb and the body was dragged tragically along with that vehicle,” he said.
Police said the victim was homeless and well-known in that area.
Earlier on Sunday, police said there was a hit-and-run crash in Kensington. Around 2:30 a.m. at 23rd Street and Lehigh Avenue, officials said a pedestrian was struck by two vehicles.
The drivers of both cars — a black Dodge Charger and a red SUV — fled the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition with severe head trauma.
Anyone with information about either hit-and-run is asked to contact police.
