SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Don't get rid of your vaccination card just yet.
Speaking on CNBC Friday morning, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy suggested that people should hold on to the cards as the state and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention consider ways to use them as proof of vaccination.
"There are lots of different potential uses for that," he said. "Whether it's going to a sporting event, getting on a plane, etc. So hold on to it and again, we will first and foremost take our guidance from the CDC."
As more people get the shots, Murphy said vaccine skepticism seems to have declined.
"When you're in a community and folks who are skeptical at first see that one of their colleagues didn't grow a third eye or collapse or have some other medical challenge as a result, confidence in the vaccine within communities goes up," he said.
Murphy expects New Jersey will meet President Joe Biden's deadline of registering all adult residents for the COVID-19 vaccine by May 1. The state has administered 3.3 million vaccine doses so far.
Retail workers in the Garden State are among the groups that will join the eligibility list starting March 29.
