Medical Report: How intense does exercise need to be to lose weight?

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Diet and exercise are both important for losing weight.

Many people think increasing the intensity of a workout gives the greatest benefit — the no pain, no gain concept. This helps with tone, but a new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that it is the amount of time you exercise that has the greatest impact on body fat, waist circumference, heart health and weight.


When it comes to shedding pounds, moderate exercise for extended periods is better than intense exercise for shorter periods.
